John Layne

“George Allen wasn’t a prophet, just a football coach in the 1960’s and 70’s – but his quote is just as insightful today as it was three decades ago. In the alphabet soup known as government contracting, a company needs to be flexible and consciously foster an outside-the-box mentality to be successful and to achieve continued growth.  Be it the ever-shrinking Federal budget, ‘insourcing,’ or other industry challenges, I believe RGS is positioned to take advantage of these opportunities that other companies view as obstacles.”

John manages the day-to-day activities of our Finance and Accounting Department, ensuring the direct deposits are made and the utilities get paid!  John has worked in the government contracting sector since 1993.  During the first phase of his career, he provided acquisition and procurement support for aircraft and missile systems managed by NAVAIR and NAWCAD-Lakehurst.  The highlight of this phase of his career was supporting the F/A-18 Hornet program, which also involved his father, a Civil Servant for the Department of the Navy, and his younger brother, an enlisted Navy Airman.

The second phase of John’s career started when he transitioned from working directly on a contract for the Navy to the area of corporate accounting.  The knowledge and experience gained from his Navy support days gives John a unique perspective on balancing external customer needs with internal customer requirements.

John is a native Washingtonian and received his BBA in Accounting from Radford University.  He is married and enjoys watching his beloved Washington Redskins and Michigan Wolverines duke it out on crisp fall afternoons.  He also enjoys all forms of automobile racing, including dodging perpetual road construction, and spends as much time with his seven nephews and nieces as time permits.
